Freedom Ministries consists of a growing number of organizations that serves the inner-city, just east of downtown Kansas City. The following four non-profit organizations provide integrated care for hundreds of people:
Freedom Fire cares for urban youth from the federal housing developments, providing weekly outreaches, 1-on-1s (mentoring), and educational initiatives. Approximately 500 youth are involved on an annual basis.
Shalom Retreat Center, a 120 acre retreat center near Mound City, KS, provides summer camps for inner city youth, retreat facilities for churches in the greater surrounding area (including Kansas City). It also offers specialized retreats and seminars.
Freedom Works provides housing, job training opportunities (currently we have a developing wood working shop and computer lab). In addition, we sponsor a reading program called Lead 2 Read which recruits and trains volunteers to help in the public schools of Kansas City (MO & KS). We presently have over 200 readers.
Freedom Covenant Church is a unique church where 70% of the congregation is homeless, 20% are from federal housing, and 10% are from the suburbs. It provides a spiritual home, support and encouragement for those who desperately need it in our city.
